Although the journey initially when Hlomphanang Logistics became Globaltrack’s client in April 2017 came with a few glitches, it soon turned into a win-win situation.
Hlomphanang Logistics, located in Brakpan, Gauteng is a cross border transporter for various shipments and has a fleet size of 46 trucks.
A sales person from Globaltrack met with Mr. Wessel Swanepoel (Director) and Mr. Armand Strauss (Diesel Manager) in April 2017, to introduce them to Globaltrack’s Cross-Border and Fuel Management Solution.
Mr Swanepoel identified the following problems that he wanted Globaltrack to assist him with:
- Provide real-time and constant information of the whole fleet when travelling cross-border where there is no cell-phone coverage
- Determine possible fuel theft
- Establish any reckless driving behaviour that leads to the increase of fuel consumption and vehicle maintenance cost
The sales person suggested Globaltrack’s Cross-Border and Fuel Management Solution that will address the client’s fleet management requirements.
Globaltrack’s Cross-Border tracking unit called the DUO 950 is an internally designed and developed tracking device, allowing the user to record and transmit detailed information from vehicle and driver to the control room. The advantage of the DUO 950 is that the user can track assets consistently, regardless of the region in which they operate i.e. non-GPRS coverage areas. As result of the satellite reporting capabilities of this unit, users do not have to incur exorbitant roaming costs.
Globaltrack’s Fuel Management Solution will confirm if Mr. Swanepoel is losing money due to fuel theft and poor driving behaviour. Since Globaltrack develops the product, it offers great flexibility and simplicity in terms of continuous innovation.
Mr Strauss was trained on the following reports, that is focused on the specified fleet management needs Mr Swanepoel identified:
- How the fuel reports work
- How to read the fuel consumption reports
- Setting up routes and areas
- How to set up the driver performance and monitoring reports
One of Gobaltrack’s latest innovation is the fuel probes; because the fuel probes are designed internally it allows for continuous improvement on design and installation of the fuel probes. Clients fleet management problems assists Globaltrack in developing products that is customised to clients’ needs. This is the case of Hlomphanang Logistics, where the design of the tank was new to Globaltrack’s database. The first calibration file that was done for Hlomphanang Logistics was off by 5 liters, causing the client to receive incorrect fuel readings.
Shaun Bezuidenhout (Globaltrack’s Project and Quality Control Manager), Dameon Filliano (Specialist Installer and Quality Assurance Controller) and a team of installers from Globaltrack, worked up until the early hours of the morning to rectify this problem.
Globaltrack’s Growth and Support Department was present from the start of the product installation, to ensure that the product and service solutions are customised to the clients’ fleet management operations.
Since the calibration files were customised to the tank design of Hlomphanang Logistics fleet, Mr. Strauss’ started seeing the value Globaltrack offers to the day-to-day job of effectively managing the operations of the fleet.
On the 27th of May Mr. Strauss discovered that some of the fuel probes were tampered with. The drivers that were responsible for the fuel probe tampering received a warning. Fuel theft is now non-existent and with the driver performance and monitoring reports, Mr. Strauss can effectively monitor the driving behavior of drivers to reprimand or reward the drivers accordingly.
To conclude the client is willing to give Globaltrack more business.
